Jack Rosenzweig is a 24 year-old drummer, composer and bandleader based in Eora/Sydney. Born in Canberra, he was captivated by music from a young age, citing Björk, Ben Folds and Coldplay as early influences. He started learning drums and percussion at 10 years old and soon after began composing electronic music with Garageband, Mixcraft and Ableton. Throughout his schooling he became involved in many jazz ensembles, cultivating a love of drumset performance which led him to study at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, graduating with First Class Honours in Jazz Performance.
Under the guidance of many distinguished teachers including Simon Barker, Will Vinson & Steve Barry, Jack has developed a unique sound and approach to the drums free from the boundaries of genre. He has attended both the Siena International Jazz Workshop and the Jazz & Sonic Arts program at the Banff Centre in Canada, honing his craft with many esteemed musicians.
A fresh voice in the Sydney jazz and improvised music scenes, Jack is involved in many original music projects including HEAPS GRASS, Flora + Fauna, Revelator, New Sun, Flux State & Ebs, as well as his solo work for drumset and electronics. In 2024, his jazz-folk project HEAPS GRASS was invited to play at Sydney’s prestigious Phoenix Central Park for the STRATA III Festival of Jazz & New Music. They released their self-titled debut EP in March and have toured extensively around Australia, performing in Melbourne, Adelaide and Tasmania, as well as throughout New South Wales. HEAPS GRASS have recorded their sophomore EP which is set to be released in early 2026.
This year, Jack recorded and released two albums under his own name. His debut album as a bandleader, RESET, and a short EP of solo piano compositions entitled Piano Works. Jack is looking forward to releasing a new body of work with his trio in early 2026, as well as some solo electronic compositions.
